Liverpool's new away kit trades red for white, digs into the mid-80s archive

Adidas and Liverpool revive the club's away kits from the 1980s for 2026-27, with a pattern lifted from old Anfield match tickets.

Liverpool and adidas officially unveiled the 2026-27 away kit on July 28, and the collectors' detail is in the fabric rather than the color story. The shirt runs a white base with red and gray trim, red shorts, and white socks, a direct callback to Liverpool's away strips from the mid-1980s.

The deeper cut is the engineered pattern woven through the jersey: it is drawn from historic Anfield match tickets, not the crest or the badge, which is an unusual reference point for a kit designer to reach for. The heritage Liver bird sits alongside the adidas Trefoil, and a black-and-purple goalkeeper kit released alongside it.

The kit got an unofficial preview before the official reveal. Calvin Harris, a Liverpool supporter, wore it on stage during his headline DJ set at Ushuaia Ibiza, giving fans a live look at the design before adidas's own unveiling.

It went on sale July 29 at 9am BST, timed to Liverpool's pre-season friendly against Wrexham the same day at Yankee Stadium in New York, which doubled as the kit's matchday debut.

For the archive-minded collector, this is a shirt that rewards a second look: the away-kit silhouette nods to the 80s, but the ticket-stub pattern is the kind of detail that only reads once you know what you're looking at.
